Head-hanging,
Spit-covered,
Bloody,
Beaten,
Mocked,
Fully naked
SHAME.
He took it.
All of it.
All the shame we’ve ever felt, now His.
And we heaped it upon Him like a garbage dump.
We backed our trucks up and piled it on.
Calvary is not a hill, its a landfill.
And all of our burning, stinking, filthy shame
Belongs there.
So why do I walk around still claiming ownership?
Did I make him face all that suffering for nothing?
I haven’t let go of my shame.
I keep it around like it’s dear to me.
Like I don’t know what I'd do without it...
Maybe shame is like a puppy.
Nobody can put down a puppy,
Man’s best friend.
Shame—that good ole’ boy,
I go to him for comfort.
He’s consistent and reliable,
And always welcomes me the same.
He makes me feel comfortable where I'm at.
I don’t need anything more.
I don’t need anything less.
I can just lie down and remain here with him.
Consistent, complacent, comfortable.
Shame.
NO!
Shame is not a puppy.
Its a filthy, stinking RAT!
Full of diseases and such.
Stop loving the rat.
Stop petting the rat.
Stop cuddling with the rat!
The rats belong at the landfill
Along with all our trash.
So, stop claiming ownership
And live free of shame.
God made Him who had no sin, to be sin for us. So that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21.
